In order to develop and sustain a robust healthcare system, one of the key factors is the availability of competent and dedicated professionals of different domains, be it the medicos, dentists, nurses, physiotherapists, biomedical engineers & technologists or the allied health professionals. The healthcare sector of the country has inadequate availability of trained professionals in Allied Health Sciences to meet the ever-growing needs of the sector, besides serving the mission – “Health for All”.
To meet growing need for allied health professionals, the University established its ‘School of Allied Health Sciences’ in the year 2020 to offer degree programmes in various domains of allied health sciences. It is providing conducive ambience and quality education to produce competent and skilled Healthcare and Allied Health Professionals (technologists). Currently, it is offering degree programmes in the field of Optometry, Medical Imaging Technology, Medical Lab Technology and Operation Theatre Technology.
Further, the Government of India has notified the enactment of ‘National Commission for Allied and Healthcare Professions Act, 2021’ (14 of 2021) on 28th March, 2021. This indicates the vision and commitment of the Central Government to regulate, uplift and standardize the education and practice of allied and healthcare professionals.
Creation of the National Commission would definitely give additional impetus to the programmes of the ‘School’, which are aimed at training and orienting students to be competent, productive, responsible, and impact generating Allied Healthcare Professionals. In order to contribute to a diverse workforce and meet future challenges of the healthcare sector, development of appropriate skills, hands-on experience, critical thinking, scientific temperament and reasoning find prominent space in the curriculum and teaching-learning processes.
